An Overview of the CCEI Medical Assistant Program

Mike Hernandez III

A prominent business professional and philanthropist, Micheal “Mike” Albert Hernandez III serves as the chief executive officer of D & M Leasing in Dallas. After reading a Houston Chronicle article that described his hometown of Brownsville as the “poorest city in America,” Mike Hernandez III founded OP 10.33, a 20-year project to support education initiatives and provide job opportunities to the residents of Brownsville in Cameron County.

OP 10.33 established the Cameron County Education Initiative (CCEI) to offer debt-free education, training, and career preparation programs for Cameron Country residents. The Medical Assistant Program at CCEI provides an opportunity for students to obtain rewarding jobs in doctor’s offices, clinics, or hospitals. The program is also a good training course for people who intend to pursue an Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting or become a vocational or practical nurse.
Some of the responsibilities of medical assistants include CPR, medical laboratory procedures, patient records management, patient appointment scheduling, and vital signs measurement. CCEI offers both lectures and hands-on classes to ensure that students learn the skills they need to become a medical assistant.
