Guadalupe Regional Middle School in Brownsville, Texas, recently showed appreciation to Dallas-based businessman and philanthropist Micheal Albert Hernandez III for a major gift that will benefit its students for years to come. In September 2016, the school celebrated the Hernandez Foundation’s contribution of $250,000. Mike Hernandez III’s gift to the school’s endowment fund is one of a series of the Brownsville native’s generous contributions to local nonprofits focused on education, social services, and business growth.
In accepting D & M Leasing CEO Mike Hernandez’s donation, school officials noted their institution’s history of offering social and high school-to-college transition support to students, as well as its dedication to focused academic programs, entirely tuition-free. The Catholic school works to put its values into practice in the everyday lives of its students.
Even so, the school has struggled to continue to meet the multiple educational needs of its community. With the new gift to its endowment fund, much of its financial anxiety has been relieved. The money will permit the school to build out its endowment so that it can continue to operate tuition-free even during rough economic cycles.
