St. Vincent’s Participates in the Kairos Prison Ministry

The semi-retired chief executive officer of Dallas-based D&M Leasing, Michael “Mike” Hernandez III has over three decades of experience. Away from his professional duties, Mike Hernandez III engages in a range of charitable endeavors that benefit his home city of Brownsville, Texas, including support of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, which in turn supports St. Vincent’s Cathedral in its mission of bringing Jesus Christ to all.

St. Vincent’s takes part in the Kairos Prison Ministry program, which serves the spiritual needs of incarcerated individuals, their children, and their families, in addition to offering support to those who work in prisons. Joining with volunteers from other churches, St. Vincent’s parishioners commit themselves to a year of serving ministry within the prison system, with each volunteer also requiring some experience with previous prison ministry programs, such as Cursillo, Tres Dias, or Via de Cristo.
The program is gender-sensitive, meaning only male participants may work inside male prisons, with the opposite true for female prisons. However, men and women can take part in the program’s outside teams, regardless of the nature of the prison in question.
